The Study & Media Centre

The Study and Media Centre

The Study and Media Centre is situated in Willows, the first house on the right when you come through Epworth’s gate.  It is coordinated by Julie Blackburn, who has been involved with Epworth for twenty years, first as a volunteer doing homework and helping with study in the evenings with the High School children and now as a permanent member of staff doing the same with children from Grade Three to Matric.

Study Centre

The Study Centre facilitates project research for the Primary School children in the mornings, homework and studying in the afternoon, and helping the High School children with the researching of their projects in the afternoons.  Study Group runs from 14h30 to 18h00, Mondays to Thursdays.  At the moment there are thirty children in mainstream schools who attend.  Research for projects is done for those children who are in special education schools and classes.

Media Centre

The Media Centre consists of a book and toy library where children can take out books (if homework and studying are finished, you may read a book, magazines are not considered as books!).  The staff is also encouraged to loan books as well as to use the computer available to learn the Word and Excel packages.

During the school holidays the Occupational Therapy Department and Media Centre combine to help with the Holiday Programme as well as supply video’s/dvd’s from our library for the children to watch.

Volunteers are sorely needed in this area and we are always grateful for anybody meeting the volunteer requirements please see our policy outlined under button ……
